A nice Battle of Jutland Long Service group.1914/15 Star, British War & Victory medals all named 164718 R OHAGAN CPO RN.Naval Long Service & Good Conduct medal named 164718 ROBERT OHAGAN PO 1 CL HMS EXCELLENT.Comes with a thank you certificate from the citizens of Portsmouth thanking Robert for his efforts during WW1.Robert was born in 1875 at Stokenewington and was a Labourer.He joined as Boy 2 class in 1896 and eventually became a CPO in 1913, he left the Navy in February 1919.Ships he was on before WW1 were Impregnable, Lion, Centurion, Excellent, Ramillies, Hibernia, Implacable, Canapus, Duke of Wellington, St Vincent, Racer, Vulcan, Exmouth, Royal Arthur, Jupiter, Hawke, Galatea,Argonaut, Terrible, Victory, Europa & Hampshire.For WW1 he was stationed on shore in Victory until 25th Aug 1915 and from then on he was on board HMS ST Vincent till he was discharged in Feb 1919.His LS&GC was issued in 11/1/1909 when on board HMS Excellent.HMS St Vincent was the second flagship and was present at the Battle of Jutland 31st May 1916. She engaged the German battleships hitting the cruisers Wiesbaden, Seydlitz and Moltke.HMS St Vincent was nearly hit by two torpedos but managed to avoid them.
