VM Pte Ede 2nd Seaforths DOW 4/11/1918

Henry James Ede born 1899 in Guildford to James & Minnie Ede of Church Road, Guildford, Surrey. He enlisted into the 2nd Battalion Seaforth Highlanders and went to France. On the 2nd Nov 1918 the battalion attacked the enemy trenches after an artillery barrage near Chateau at Artres, Cambrai, they moved into the local village and met some Sniper fire but went from house to house clearing the enemy out, gaining lots of prisoners. A lot of machine guns and trench motars were captured. The 3rd Nov all was quite and they were removed from the Line. During the fighting on the 2nd Nov, Henry was mortally wounded and died on the 4th Nov just 7 days short of the end of the war. He was only 19 years old.
