On the 11th May 1915 while in trenches at Loos the enemy launched an artillery barrage across the trenches scoring a direct hit on the HQ, after the barrage, the enemy attacked in swathes but were met with our artillery which drove them back for awhile. They did reach certain trenches and were met with rifle fire. Thomas was in B Coy which was holding Anchor Trench but this was completely obliterated by artillery and bombing parties. The enemy was counterattacked with bombing and bayonet parties and this went on the following day as well.
