Harry Valentine a 19 year old Labourer born in St Johns, Manchester joined the Rifle Brigade numbered 3992 on 12 Aug 1895. He had previous service with the 3rd Battalion Royal Lancester Regt. After training he went to Singapore on 30th Oct 1896 till 30th Jan 1898, Malta 31st Jan 1898 to 11th July 1898, Egypt for the Sudan campaign 12th July 1898 to 20th Sept 1898, Crete 21st Sept 1898 to 15th Dec 1898 for the Crete Greek rebellion, South Africa 16th Dec 1898 till 28th Oct 1902 for the Boer War (reported missing at Blood River Poort on 17 September 1901, but later re-joined) and then home till 11th Aug 1907 when he left after his 12 years service.

When WW1 came he was recalled to the Colours with the Rifle Brigade numbered 620 as a Private on 24th Aug 1914. He landed in France on the 19th May 1915 with the 7th Battalion and was wounded in action on 30th Dec 1915. He joined the Labour Corps numbered 620955 by now a Sgt and surviced the War. He died on 9th June 1948.

Reported missing at Blood River Poort on 17 September 1901, but later re-joined. Sold with confirmation of medals and clasps.
