James J Witherow born in Purburn, London on 17th Feb 1888 to bricklayer James & Bessie Witherow. He was a pre-war soldier as listed in the 1911 Census as a soldier in the 1st Wiltshire Regiment numbered 7547 in South Africa. WW1 he landed in France on 7th Oct 1914 with the 2nd Battlion and is shown as being captured by the Germans on 30th Nov 1915. In the 1939 Census he is a building laborurer in Swindon.
