Naval General Service Medal clasp Algiers named EDWIN BRACKENBURY. Unique name on the rolls, comes with a metal top brooch bar named EDWIN BRACKENBURY JUNE 8TH 1849. We assume this is the date he received his medal. Only 4 to officers and 12 to Ratings for this ship to this clasp.
Edwin Brackenbury born 9th July 1796 at Bag Enderby, Lincs to Carrthos & Mary Ann Brackenbury. He joined the Navy on 15th April 1815 and served as Boy 1st Class on HMS Britomart during the bombardment of Algiers in 1816. He was discharged after serving 2 years in 1817.
A Edwin Brackenbury married Elizabeth Fisher Child on 14th July 1823 in Spilsby, Lincs. They had financial difficulties during their life as several entries of him in debtors prison. He died on 3rd Jan 1863.
