Charles John Dale from Leeds was in the L Corps Signal Coy Royal Engineers and arrived in France 3rd September 1915. L Signal Company, the equivalent of the civilian General Post Office, was responsible for handling the telephone and telegraphic communications and message carrying by motor-cycle between GHQ and the various Army Headquarters on all parts of the front. He was awarded the Medaillie dHonneur avec Glaives in the London Gazette 28th January 1919.
