1914 Trio 7449 Pte Baker 1st Hampshire Regt

1914 Star with copy clasp named 7449 PTE P BAKER 1/HAMPS R.British War & Victory Medals named 7449 PTE P BAKER HAMPS R.Percy joined the Baker, 1st Battalion Hampshire Regiment and entered France on 23 August 1914. Served in the 11th Infantry Brigade, 4th Division, in Pulteney‰ЫЄs III Army Corps. Held the left flank of the British line at Le Cateau at Fontaine-au-Pire.In September 1914 they were ferried across the River Marne near the town of Champigny in the advance to the Aisne. On 30 October 1914 the Hampshires were holding a one mile front east of Ploegsteert Wood when they were subjected to heavy artillery and infantry attack. On 19 December 1914, the 11th Brigade attacked the ‰ЫчBirdcage‰ЫЄ to the east of Ploegsteert Wood and suffered heavy casualties – many caused by British artillery whose shots fell short.
