Albert was from Sheffield and landed in Egypt on the 5th Sept 1915 with the 6th York and Lancaster Regt.The 6th (Service) Battalion landed at Suvla Bay in Gallipoli as part of the 32nd Brigade in the 11th (Northern) Division; the battalion was evacuated in December 1915 and moved to Egypt before moving on to France in July 1916 for service on the Western Front.It was in France that he won the MM LG 21st Oct 1918 for actions between May and June 1918.
