Indian General Service Medal clasp Persia impressed naming SERJT H PURCELL 14TH KINGS LT DGNS.Henry was a cotton spinner from Warrington, Lancs. He was born in 1817 and joined in 1839 aged 22.He joined the 14th Kings Light Dragoons numbered 656 He spent 22 in the army, 18 1/2 years in India and rose to the rank of Serjeant when he left in 1861.Four good conduct badges and served in the Punjab War of 1848-49 was present at the affair of Ramnagar and at the Battle of Chilianwala & Goojerat Special Service (medal and clasps).Present at the surrender of the Sikh army, the occupation of Attock and Pershwar and the repulsion of the Afghans beyond the Kybper Pass. Served in the Persian expedition of 1857 (medal and clasp). After he left the army he was convicted in 1873 of assualting a women and sentenced to six months imprisonment.
