George Ronald Bennett landed inFrance on 13th Aug 1914 as a Drummer of the 2nd Battalion Welsh Regiment. He took part in the The Battle of Mons and the subsequent retreat, including the Rearguard Affair of Etreux (August), The Battle of the Marne (September), The Battle of the Aisne including participation in the Actions on the Aisne heights and the Action of Chivy (September). It was probably the last action that Drummer Bennett was wounded in and he died of these wounds on 7th Oct 1914 at St Nazaire 3rd General Hospital.
