British War & Victory Medals named LIEUT R B WALLACE. Comes with a massive 140 picture photo album of his time in Egypt including plane,tank, officerspictures all named, includes a picture of him in hospital and his brother Denis who was killed in WW1.
Robert (Bob) Brown Wallace was born in Aug 1894 youngest of 8 children to Henry and Eliza Wallace of Edinburgh. He enlisted into the RoyalScots as a Private numbered 2886, then gained a commission in Nov 1915 before being sent overseas on his first posting to Egypt with the 1/4th Battalion RoyalScots. This was the same regiment his brother Denis was in.
His first posting was guarding the Suez Canal before being posted to Palestine in 1916 to take part in the Battles of Dueidar & Romani. 1917 saw them in action at Gaza for the First (held in reserve),Second and Third Battles of Gaza.
It was at the Third Battle of Gaza on the 2nd Nov 1917 that Bob was wounded in action with shrapnel in his hip and back. He was sent back to Alexandria for hospital treatment till Feb 1918 when he went back to regiment. He left Egypt in March 1918 with the regiment and went toFrance. He would have also taken part in the Second battles of Somme and Arras and the Hindenburg Line.He left France in late Oct 1918 and was discharged in March 1919.
