Jack was born in Lenham in 1898 and attended Sutton Valence School. He joined the 28th London Regt as a Pte numbered 9085 & 763089.He gained a commission with the Northumberland Fusiliers on 27th Feb 1917.He was killed in action on the 20th Nov 1917 with the 1st Northumberland Fusiliers attacking the Germans at Courcelles. He was the only officer killed that day. Two officer were wounded as well.His brother Gordon Frank Mason Apps joined the RFC and won a DFC in Sept 1918 in Italy.His father was Harry Mason Apps whom the police medal belongs to. The family were living in The Nest, Sutton Valence, Kent.
