Distinguished Conduct Medal named 18165 PTE T JONES 1/Y & L REGT.Thomas landed in France on the 13th May 1915 with the 1st York and Lancaster Regt.He won the DCM as a Private on the 29th Sept 1915, London Gazette 16th Nov 1915.Citation reads: -For conspicuous bravery on the 29th September 1915, near Vermelles. Private Jones displayed the greatest bravery in continuing to throw bombs from our parapet, although under constant and direct heavy fire. The enemy had cut off the left flank, and he helped to bomb them out and retake the trench. The whole action lasted six hours, and nearly all his fellow bomb-throwers were killed or wounded. His gallantry and devotion to duty were most marked.
