George was from Manchester when he joined the 1/8th Manchester Regiment numbered 2709. He landed in Gallipoli on the 25th Sept 1915 and took part in that campaign. They were evacuated in Dec 1915 and eventually posted back to France in March 1917. George was awarded an MM in the London Gazette 27th June 1918 as a Cpl and renumbered 300550. This action was for Gallantry in late March 1918.
