Miliary Medal named 3-3531 CPL H P GREENWOOD Y & L R – S R.Harold was in 2nd Battalion York & Lancaster Regt when he landed in France on 9th Feb 1915. He transferred to the 8th Battalion and won a MM LG 3rd June 1916 listed as Special Reserve attd 8th Battallion, their war diary notes. No.3531 Cpl H P Greenwood B Coy who On the night of 28/29 April 1916 , near Albert, showed conspicuous gallantry and coolness. Previous to the explosion of a mine he volunteered to erect a wire barricade in one of our craters at a point where the enemy might have made an attempt to capture the crater. He did this work throughly and erected two barricades within 15 yards of the enemy sentries. On several previous occasions his name has been brought forward for conspicuous bravery and contempt of danger in leading wiring parties under rifle and machine gun fire and supervising their work.He is noted as then transferring to the 6th Battalion being renumbered 63885. At the end of the war he relisted on the 30th May 1919 back into the Y&L R.
