Joe Tetlow Topping was born in 1897 in Rhodes Green, Middleton and was a Cotton Spinner in 1911 aged 14. When WW1 started he joined the 2/5th Lancashire Fusiliers Territorial Force numbered 4825 and was renumbered 202147. He was awarded a Military Medal in the LG 14th Jan 1918 for the period Ypres Sept/Oct 1917.
