1914/15 Star named 10572 PTE D QUINN HIGH LI.British War & Victory Medals named 10572 SJT D QUINN HIGH LI.Meritorious Service Medal named 29403 SJT D QUINN 6/KOSB.Daniel was from New Monkland and aged 18 he joined the army in 1907 into the Highland Light Infantry.When war broke out the regiment was in India and they came home and landed in France in Dec 1914. He spent 2 months there before being sent home to train soldiers. He was transferred to the KOSB in Dec 1916 and landed in France with them the same month with the 6th Battalion as a Sjt. He was in France for the next three years till Jan 1919 when he came home. He left the army in March 1920.According to the records he ruined his chances of a LS&GC early in his career breaking out of barracks and other crimes but he must have matured to make a Sjt. The 6th KOSB took part in the following battles from 1917 & 1918: – 1917The First & Second Battles of the Scarpe, The First Battle of Passchendaele, The action of Welsh Ridge. 1918The Battle of St Quentin, The First Battle of Bapaume, The Battle of Messines, The Battle of Bailleul, The First & Second Battles of Kemmel, The Advance in Flanders in which the Division captured the Outtersteene Ridge, The Final Advance in Flanders in which the Division fought in the Battle of Courtrai and the action of Ooteghem.
