WW1 Pair Pte Tilly 1st Hampshire Regt & 2/4th Berkshire Regt WIA 9/6/1918

British War & Victory Medals named 45880 PTE J TILLY HAMPS R.

Jack Tilly was born in Portsmouth and was an 18 year old motor driver when he enlisted into the 1st Hampshire Regt numbered 45880. After training he lannded in France on 2nd April 1918 with the 2/4th Berkshire Regiment. On the 9th June 1918 the battalion were at Ref 36A in the trenches and were shelled and machine gunned by the Germans and this date Jack was hit by artillery (Wizz & Bang) as he was Wounded in Action Gun Shot Wounds to both thighs and hands and this was the end of the war for him. He was shipped back to the UK and was eventually awarded a pension due to his wounds
